This cartridge is standard for "tracing" the ammo path in all .50 caliber machine guns. It is also used as an incendiary against flammable agents. This cartridge can be identified by the dark red or burgundy tip painted on the end of the bullet. It consists of a cartridge case, a primer, a propelling charge and a bullet. The tracer is intended to permit visible observation of bullets in flight path or trajectory to the point of impact. These rounds "trace" as far as the eye can see!!
